How Our Fundraising Has Helped Create a New Occupational Therapist Role at Saint Catherine’s

At Moneyweb, supporting our local community has always been a key part of who we are — and we’re incredibly proud to see the real impact of our fundraising efforts for Saint Catherine’s Hospice. Thanks to the generosity of our clients, colleagues, friends, and local businesses, we have now raised over £50,000 in total for the hospice. One of the most meaningful outcomes of this fundraising is the creation of a brand-new Occupational Therapist (OT) position, which is already making a real difference to patient care.

Katy Newton, who has taken up this vital role, recently visited Moneyweb to share more about her work and how the funds we’ve raised have helped bring it to life. Katy, who has worked in both the NHS and community care for over 15 years, now supports patients across our region who may find it difficult to travel to the hospice in Scarborough. With a strong passion for palliative care, working at Saint Catherine’s had been a long-standing ambition for her.

A key part of Katy’s role is managing the hospice’s new ‘Mobile Units’, known as Pods, which bring vital services directly to patients’ doorsteps in rural and hard-to-reach areas. These units allow Katy and the wider team to provide practical support, clinical care, and even run outreach sessions such as the Lymphoedema Clinic and Cancer Cafés, which offer a vital source of advice and support for those living with cancer.

With the support of these Mobile Units, Saint Catherine’s is expanding its reach beyond the hospice walls, ensuring patients and families can access compassionate care closer to home. This forward-thinking approach not only enhances the quality of care but also raises awareness of the hospice’s work and highlights the importance of continued community fundraising.

Reflecting on what this achievement means for Moneyweb, Paul Robinson, Director at Moneyweb, said:
“We’re incredibly proud to know that the funds we’ve raised have directly supported the creation of such an important role at Saint Catherine’s. Knowing that Katy and the new Mobile Units are now out in the community, providing care to those who need it most, really brings home the value of everything we’ve worked towards. It’s a wonderful example of how fundraising can create lasting change for local families.”

We want to thank every single person who has supported our fundraising efforts over the years — from attending events to sponsoring our challenges. Your generosity is helping us fund care that is making a genuine difference to people across Scarborough and the surrounding areas.

As Katy herself said:
“This is an incredibly exciting time for the hospice, with new projects launching and services expanding. Thanks to Moneyweb’s fundraising, we can take care right to people’s doors and build greater awareness of the services Saint Catherine’s provides. It’s an honour to be part of it.”

We look forward to continuing our support for Saint Catherine’s and seeing how these innovative services continue to evolve in the months and years ahead.
